Transforming Tottenham Court Road. On track with Crossrail.

London Underground and Crossrail continue to make good progress on the new Tottenham Court Road station, with demolition works at Goslett Yard completed ahead of schedule and piles under construction for the new Northern Escalator shaft to the east of Charing Cross Road.

To maintain local power supplies, a temporary substation is being built on the Astoria site. and bus diversions at this end of Oxford Street will remain in place until November while utility works are underway.

Those of you who use Tottenham Court Road Station should be aware that the main bank of escalators is being strengthened prior to commencement of tunnelling. This involves one escalator being taken out of service at a time. Work has already started on the first and will continue until November. Work on the other two is scheduled for 2011. At busy times customers may need to use the stairs to the platforms. To facilitate the work, there will also be a track closure between Camden Town and Kennington on the Charing Cross branch of the Northern Line on the weekend of 14/15 August. The rest of the station and the Central Line will operate as normal.

If you have any questions about the current station works or Crossrail construction, you can contact the 24 hour Helpdesk by email on helpdesk@crossrail.co.uk or by calling 0345 602 3813.
