The Midtown Rangers. A new team for a new area, and era.
Our Rangers have achieved great things in Holborn over the last four years. Now, to enable them to keep up the good work in a BID area nearly double the size, we’re increasing their numbers, giving them smart new uniforms and a brand new name.
The bright orange livery of the Midtown Rangers will soon be a familiar sight throughout St Giles, Bloomsbury and Holborn.
The Rangers are our eyes and ears. They patrol our district to ensure that it’s a safer and more pleasant place for workers, residents and visitors alike and their responsibilities are suitably wide-ranging, covering everything from reporting graffiti and loose paving stones to offering directions or recommending a place to eat.
Most noteworthy, perhaps, is their crime prevention work, in particular their collaboration with local police and Police Community Support Officers in the Business Watch Initiative. Since this was first launched in Holborn in 1995, the area has seen a significant decline of 33% in crime figures. With a wider stage on which to operate, we’re expecting even greater reductions.
The new BID area brings its own challenges, not least an influx of over 200,000 workers and visitors every day, but we're confident that it won't be long before the Midtown Rangers make their influence well and truly felt.
