Building sights. A walk for the London Festival of Architecture 2010

This year's London Festival of Architecture, a biennial, capital-wide celebration of architecture, took place from 19 June to 4 July. And, once again, we took to the streets.

For the festival in 2008, we organized a walk called Holborn: then and now. This year, we widened our horizons in recognition of the expanded BID area with St Giles and Bloomsbury: then and now. This enabled us to visit a fantastic range of buildings and styles, from Hawksmoor’s exuberant St George’s in Bloomsbury to the very new and very colourful Central St Giles by Renzo Piano. On the way, we took in the British Museum, Bedford Square, Centrepoint, St Giles' Church and the former Saville Theatre, now an Odeon cinema.

In 2008, we were overwhelmed by the popularity of our LFA walk, so this year we organised four  separate ones to keep the numbers more manageable and ensure that everyone could see and hear the guide. A total of 85 attendees voted with their feet and the event was deemed a great success.
