Public Realm

Holborn is a highly successful commercial district with a rich history and good transport links. Yet it could be so much more.

inholborn seeks to encourage the key decision makers among local business and the public agencies to work together to ensure that Holborn has the vibrant and exciting open spaces and quality public realm it deserves.

Enhancing the area for those who visit, work, live and do business here will at the same time enhance the local economy, attracting new business and employment, providing improved amenities and increasing staff retention.

Public realm projects

Plantlocks

Plantlocks are planters that double as bicycle stands, somewhere to plant your bike while you go off to shop or work. We are very keen to get these onto Holborn’s streets, as they’re a great way to add a little greenery to the streetscape whilst promoting cycling. Watch this space.

Red Lion Square

Red Lion Square is a pleasant, green space at the heart of Holborn but one that’s currently underused by locals and visitors and overwhelmed by the noise of traffic. Our regeneration proposal involves redressing the balance between motor traffic and pedestrians in the neighbouring streets, reinstating something of the square’s original 17th century landscaping, making it brighter and sunnier by cutting back overhanging trees and installing a glass pavilion and sympathetic tree lights to encourage people to make much more use of it both at lunchtimes and in the evening.
